Hillcrest Village is a Business Improvement Area (or BIA) comprised of the more than 100 businesses along St Clair Ave West, between Christie and Winona.
The area has a wide mix of businesses serving both the local community and the GTA. It is perhaps most recognized for the interesting selection of restaurants and live music venues which have opened in the last few years, providing tastes and sounds for every appetite.
Our logo is based on the cupola atop St Matthews United Church, which is located in the centre of the BIA.
A Business Improvement Area (BIA) is an association of business people within a specified district who join together, with official approval of the City, in a self-help program aimed at stimulating local business. (For additional information on BIAs visit the website of TABIA - Toronto Association of BIAs: www.toronto-bia.com )
Hillcrest Village BIA was founded in 1984. The organization is managed by a voluntary Board of Directors who are involved with area businesses.
The organization has been involved in a number of activities designed to make the area more attractive to shoppers and diners from near and far, as well as residents:
- installation of benches
- installation and maintenance of street planters and hanging baskets
- installation of decorative lighting during the Winter Holiday Season
- Hillcrest Village In Motion Festival (first held July, 2004)
- design contest and painting of mural on Skills for Change building
(first of many)
- sponsorship of the first ART WALK (Oct 1-3, 2004)
- commercial research to develop a strategic vision for the area
- establishment of this website
